Yoga Bible

A 200-hour yoga teacher training provides a foundation in practice, anatomy, yoga philosophy and the craft of teaching. It involves more than learning additional poses. You practise designing a class, explaining your choices and making room for different people to participate. Exact timetables and assessment methods depend on the current cohort, so check the live programme before applying.

From personal practice to teaching

Following a teacher and guiding a room are different skills. In a foundation programme, you explore poses and transitions from both positions: how a movement feels to you, and which words help somebody else find a workable version. Sequencing, pace and variations turn a list of poses into a class with a beginning, middle and end.

Consider an illustrative exercise: you design 20 minutes of gentle Vinyasa. First, write the purpose in one sentence. Then choose a simple warm-up, two movement sequences and a closing. After trying it with fellow trainees, notice where you spoke too quickly and where your instructions landed clearly. That feedback gives you something specific to try next time; it is not a verdict on your potential as a teacher.

What belongs in the curriculum?

  • Techniques and practice: Explore poses, breath practices, meditation and variations without looking for one ideal shape.
  • Anatomy: Basic movement knowledge helps you ask better questions and offer choices. Teacher training does not make you a healthcare practitioner.
  • History, philosophy and ethics: Study yoga's ideas alongside boundaries, consent and respect in a contemporary class.
  • Teaching craft: Work on verbal cues, observation, lesson design and practice teaching.

Yoga Bible also describes Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Hot Yoga and meditation in its 200-hour programme overview. Yin is part of that broader programme; its inclusion is not a promise of a separate Yin certificate. Ask for the current cohort plan if the allocation of time to a particular subject matters to you.

Make feedback usable

Useful feedback names an observable choice. Rather than “be more confident,” a peer might say: “Give one instruction at a time, then pause during the transition.” You could record a short practice lesson, repeat it and see whether the directions became easier to follow. This is an example of a feedback method, not a quotation from Yoga Bible's internal assessment rubric.

Before you choose a cohort, ask three questions: How often will I teach other people? How will I receive feedback? What assignment or assessment completes the course? If the pace is also on your mind, read the first-training guide and compare the 4, 8 and 18-week formats.

A curriculum becomes useful when you have room to try it in a teaching setting.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need advanced poses?

No advanced pose is required. A particular format can still have entry requirements. Yoga Bible's 18-week programme recommends 6–12 months of regular practice, 2–3 times weekly, familiarity with basic poses and the ability to complete a 60-minute class. Check the requirements for your cohort.

Does completing 200 hours automatically make me RYT 200?

A school completion certificate and personal registration are separate steps. Check the school's current status and Yoga Alliance's requirements if registration matters to you.

Can I train without intending to teach?

Yes, training can be a structure for deeper study. You should still check the practice-teaching and assessment commitments for your cohort.
