A useful yoga photo session starts with knowing what the images need to do. Choose a few subjects, clothing you can move in and poses that belong to your current practice. You do not need advanced poses to make an effective portrait or communicate how you teach.

Start with where the images will appear

A photograph for a teacher profile has a different purpose from one for a poster. On a profile, people need to recognise you. On a poster, the design may need space for a title. Think about the final setting before deciding on the subjects.

Write down your three main uses. They might include a studio portrait, a wide website image and a practice photograph for a presentation. That list helps establish priorities if the session cannot accommodate every idea.

A sample shot list for a teacher

This illustrative list is a starting point to adapt with the photographer. It is a planning aid, rather than a promise that particular image types or quantities will be included in the delivery.

  • Portrait: A simple image in which your face is clear.
  • Practice: A familiar variation you want to work with on the day.
  • Teaching: A demonstration or situation that communicates your approach.
  • Format: A wide and a vertical composition where useful.
  • Detail: A quiet close-up that can sit alongside wider photographs.

If you want to show teaching with other people, agree their participation and image use beforehand. A teaching photograph also needs a shared understanding of the situation. It does not have to involve a staged physical adjustment.

Use clothing and references to simplify decisions

Bring two or three options and try them in movement at home. Check whether they stay in place in the variations you are considering. Prioritise clothing you feel comfortable wearing rather than an outfit that only works while standing still.

A small moodboard can communicate colour, atmosphere and framing. Choose a few reference images and explain what you like about each. You might appreciate the light or the simplicity; you do not have to reproduce another practitioner’s pose.

Your photographs become more useful when you plan their purpose before their difficulty.

What does Yoga Bible describe?

Yoga Bible’s photography offering is based in Christianshavn, with on-location work by arrangement. Its standard description gives up to 60 minutes and private delivery of 12–20 edited, high-resolution images within 7–10 working days. Confirm your particular arrangement before booking.

Send your priorities with the enquiry. Ask about the photographer, cropping and any particular file formats you need. If you plan to use images in advertising, print or business materials, clarify the terms of use. A high-resolution file does not, on its own, establish permission for every use.

Keep a copy of the agreed brief for the day. It gives you something to return to if you decide to change an outfit or spend longer on one subject. A concise brief leaves room for ideas while preserving the images that matter most.

Do I need advanced poses?

No. The offering describes guidance adapted to your level. A clear portrait and a simple practice variation can be useful starting points.

How do I choose between many ideas?

Mark three essential subjects and list the rest as possibilities. First explain where those essential images will appear.

Can we photograph elsewhere?

On-location sessions are available by arrangement. Describe the location and purpose so the team can discuss the practical scope.

Explore your first yoga teaching job and private yoga or group classes. Then view the photo session and send your brief when your shot list is ready.
